Amazing Adoptions Distinguish Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center’s First Year

North Shore Animal League America is excited to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, or BFF, as we affectionately call it. During this memorable year, filled with some sad and difficult moments due to COVID-19, we are so thankful that we were able to continue our no-kill mission to Rescue, Nurture, Adopt, and Educate. Protect Your Pets from Deadly Algae Poisoning

Pets, especially hunting and sporting dogs that love to swim, farm animals, wildlife, fish, and even people are at risk of getting sick and even dying from harmful algal blooms. These blooms are increasing around the world and the United States is seeing its fair share. In particular, our country’s freshwater ponds and lakes are being affected and the deadliest blooms are formed of blue-green algae or cyanobacteria. You should also be aware that this bacteria can grow in backyard fountains, garden pots, birdbaths, and anywhere there is stagnant water.

Finding Homes During COVID-19 Crisis

In the days since the COVID-19 crisis closed our Adoption Center to the public, a skeletal staff of committed employees and volunteers have continued caring for the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens still being housed at our Port Washington, NY campus. Also, due to their dedication, many animals are getting adopted — even during this difficult time. Since April, 17 long-term adult cats (available for adoption for a year or more) from the Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center have found happy, loving homes.
