Question

My Ex and I adopted our dogs he basically kept everything under his name. I paid for some things like food and vet visits etc. I couldn’t afford everything all the time since I don’t make as much as he does. I am fine with him keeping the dogs. But I want to make sure that I can go visit them and take them with me twice a month on the weekends. I am afraid that he is going to change his mind and take them away from me completely. Also he is moving to Connecticut from NYC at the end of this month. How can I make sure I can always see them?

Answer

A written pet custody contract (signed by all parties) specifying the rights and obligations of the parties can be helpful to avoid future conflicts. However, there is no guarantee that all courts will enforce a pet visitation contract. Good luck!
