Question

My dog didn't make it, and now we have a $5,000.00 vet bill. I am disabled and make $1,000.00 a month on disability. What, or is there something I can do? Can the ex-wife be responsible because the dog lives with both of them?

Answer

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. A lawsuit can be brought to try to get compensated. Small Claims Courts are user friendly and it is inexpensive to commence lawsuits in these courts. More than one person can be named as a defendant. It may be difficult to prove that the ex-wife should be responsible for damages caused by the dog since she was not living with or in charge of the dog at the time of the incident and possibly had no ownership rights in the dog at that time.
