Question

What exactly is animal cruelty, and how would I go about getting my dogs returned to me after they were taken, and my mother signed the owner-surrender papers?

Answer

After animals are surrendered, it becomes very difficult to get the animals returned, and even more so when cruelty to the animals is suspected. People who believe that their animals were wrongfully taken or wrongfully surrendered or being wrongfully withheld can sue to try to get the animals returned. There are laws regarding a hearing process when animals are seized due to suspected mistreatment or neglect but those laws do not apply after an animal is voluntarily surrendered. Consult with an attorney in your state for possible next steps. Time is of the essence. Most importantly, I hope that everyone considers the best interests of these dogs who should have a safe, loving, and forever home.
